As the Zifa Munhumutapa Challenge Cup enters the Round of 32, with PSL teams now being part of the competition, some of the biggest matches will take place in the Southern Region.
Zimbabwe’s two football giants, Highlanders and Dynamos, travel to Hwange this weekend to face Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League sides, Blackrock and Hwange respectively.
On Saturday, August 8, Hwange is takes on Dynamos at the The Colliery Stadium while on Sunday, August 9 Blackrock squares up against Highlanders at the same venue, presenting a tantalising footballing weekend spectacle in the Southern Region.
This is a significant football feast for the people in Matabeleland North who have not watched these two teams play competitively at the Colliery since 2024 when Hwange was relegated from the Premiership.
While Dynamos visited Hwange earlier this year for pre-season preparations against various teams, fans will be eager to see both Highlanders and Dynamos in competitive action.
Meanwhile, Zifa has released the prize schedule for the Zifa Munhumutapa Challenge Cup which is being competed for by teams from across the country who participate in different leagues, from the lower rungs of the football ecosystem, the Area Zones right up to the Premiership.
All the four teams from the Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League taking part in the Round of 32 are guaranteed to take home at least $15,000, while teams eliminated in the regional qualifiers will receive $1,000 each.
