Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League Week 12 round up

Here is a round up of some of the matches that took place in Week 12 of the Pacific Breeze Southern Soccer League over the weekend.

PHIRI BRACE RESCUES BOSSO 90 IN 2-2 THRILLER AT WHITE CITY

White City Stadium delivered a four-goal thriller Saturday as Bosso 90 were held to a 2-2 draw by Zimbabwe Saints in the Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League.

Leo Phiri was the hero for Bosso 90 again, bagging another brace to earn his side a point.

He struck first in the first half to give Bosso 90 the lead.

Zim Saints came out firing after halftime and turned the game around with Lesley Lunga pulling them level, before Phelius Sibanda completed the comeback to put the visitors 2-1 up in the second half.

But Leo Phiri wasn’t done.

The Bosso 90 striker pulled a stunning shot from a free kick to net his second of the day and level the scores, ensuring the spoils were shared.

MOSITAFA STRIKES EARLY AS TAVARERA BRACE FIRES VICTORIA FALLS HERENTALS TO 4TH WIN

Victoria Falls Herentals got their 4th win of the season on Saturday after defeating Aqua Stars 3-1 at Chinotimba Stadium.

The hosts were out of the blocks flying. Ian Mositafa needed less than a minute to open the scoring, finishing off an assist from Nabboth Tavarera to stun Aqua Stars early.

Nabboth then turned scorer himself, doubling Herentals’ lead in the first half following a good pass from Owen Chitimbe, before completing his brace with a flashing header in the second half off a pinpoint cross from Partridge Donga.

Aqua Stars refused to fold and pulled one back through Bokang Tsepiso Klou in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback as Herentals saw the game out.

Nabboth Tavarera now has 3 goals this season while Ian Mositafa has 4 goals in 5 games played.

MEGAWATT RUN RIOT: CLIVE “MANE” NCUBE BRACE POWERS 3-0 WIN OVER NJUBE SPURS

Megawatt FC turned on the style at Chakona Stadium on Saturday, running riot with a 3-0 win over Njube Spurs.

Clive “Mane” Ncube was the architect of the damage. He opened the scoring in the first half to give Megawatt the lead, then returned in the second half to complete his brace and put the game to bed.

Sandwiched between Ncube’s strikes was Pilot Sibanda, who added Megawatt’s second goal early in the second half to stretch the lead and leave Njube Spurs chasing shadows.

LATE DRAMA: SANDISO SPOT-KICK EARNS JORDAN FC WIN AS KEEPER KEEPS 6TH CLEAN SHEET

Jordan FC made it six wins from 12 matches this season after captain Sandiso Ncube converted a stoppage-time penalty to seal a 1-0 victory over Bulawayo City at Mthwakazi Ground on Saturday.

Playing in front of a packed home crowd, Jordan had to wait until deep into added time before their persistence paid off. Awarded a penalty late on, captain for the day Sandiso Ncube stepped up and made no mistake, slotting home to spark wild celebrations.

The win was built on another rock-solid defensive display. Jordan’s goalkeeper Anxious Mutanda kept his 6th clean sheet of the campaign in just 9 games played – a record that continues to underpin their season. Bulawayo City threw everything forward but couldn’t find a way past him.

The results means it’s 12 games played 6 wins, 5 draws and 1 loss for Jordan FC this season.

TALEN VISION SNATCH 2ND SPOT WITH 2-1 VICTORY OVER ZEBRA REVOLUTION

Talen Vision FC climbed into 2nd place on the Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League table, after a 2-1 victory over Zebra Revolution at White City Stadium.

Craigy Chiwoko did the damage in the first half, putting Talen Vision 1-0 up before the break. The lead looked solid until Zebra Revolution’s Innocent Tshuma popped up in the second half to make it 1-1.

The game turned again a few minutes later. Butho Phiri netted for Talen Vision, a goal that would stand as the winner and secure all three points for them.

KHAMI UNITED FRUSTRATES NKAYI UNITED IN GOALLESS STALEMATE
Nkayi came into the encounter desperate for a victory after a turbulent week, in which they lost to Bulawayo Warriors and were booted out of the ZIFA Munhumutapa Challenge Cup — all in the same week.
However, they came unstuck against a determined Khami United side who proved to be a tough nut to crack all afternoon, also benefiting from a bit of luck.
Nkayi were quick off the blocks. James Chivasa’s eyes lit up inside the box upon receiving a pass from captain Moreblessing Ernesto on the right side. His powerful strike, destined for the bottom corner, was blocked for a corner kick by a last-ditch tackle in the 20th minute.
On the other hand, the pace of Nqobani Mpofu and Courage Muzamba kept the Nkayi defence on their toes. In the 62nd minute, Muzamba blazed over the bar when he had a clear sight of goal, causing no trouble for goalkeeper Romeo Zimba.
The Nkayi technical team made changes in the second half in an attempt to add impetus to their attack, but the goal wouldn’t come. Substitute Michael Ndlovu struck over the target when he was fed by Karel Jawa down the wing in the 65th minute.
Tino Chitete then struck the post in the 86th minute when a goalmouth melee resulted in the ball landing at his feet on an acute angle. However, his effort couldn’t squeeze between substitute goalkeeper Mduduzi Nyathi — who had replaced Leroy Moyo in the 75th minute — and the post.
When referee Christina Mpanza blew the final whistle, Nkayi players went down in dejection as the team has gone three matches without a win.
Nkayi remained eighth with 18 points, nine points adrift of log leaders Hwange, who travel to Bulawayo on Wednesday to face Imbizo.
